Three to Four
Weeks Before:
* In a small notebook, begin
writing down everything you think you will need.
* Draw up your guest list and check to be sure you have
the correct address and telephone number for each. Use Yahoo people search to help.
* If your party is to be informal and you are inviting by
phone, call now.
* If you are sending written or printed invitations, buy
them now.
* Plan your menu.
* Make a shopping list of everything you think you will
need, including toothpicks, furniture polish, napkins, balloons and party favors.
One Week Before:
* Do the shopping for the cake.
* Check your guest list and phone any guests who have not
responded to be sure whether or not they are coming.
* Organize the ice. Bath tubs are great for ice as
well as a good place to chill beer, wine and soft drinks. Trash pails with heavy
duty plastic liners also make excellent ice "buckets".
* Decide what you are going to wear and check to see if
it needs to be cleaned or pressed.
* Make hair and manicure appointments.
Two or Three Days Before:
* Rearrange furniture so as to best accommodate your
guests.
* Clean the house now, so that you are worry-free the day
of your party.
* Set up extra tables for the bar and buffet.
Arranging them at opposite ends of the room is recommended to help avoid traffic jams and
to keep guests circulating.
* Cook as much of the food as possible so that you need
only heat it the night of your party.
* Check to be sure you have enough waste baskets and ash
trays around.
* Apologize in advance to your nearest neighbors or
invite them to join the party. They won't object to the noise if they are part of
the fun.
* If you live in an apartment, notify your doorman or
superintendent about the expected number of guests.
The Night Before:
* Set your tables, checking to be sure you have enough
plates, silverware, glasses, cups and saucers.
* Be sure guest towels and soap are in the bathroom.
* If your party is in winter, be sure you have enough
room for coats, boots, umbrellas, etc..
* If you need more supplies, party supply services will
rent you a coat rack, glasses, tables, chairs, tents and even outdoor heaters if you need
them.
The Day Of The Party:
* Make up a schedule and tape it to your refrigerator,
i.e., what time to put out the ice, heat food, etc..
* Set up the bar
* Arrange fresh flowers, etc.
* Adjust lighting and music so the atmosphere is ready
for your guests.
* Leave plenty of time to leisurely shower and dress.
* Smile and enjoy the music provided by DJ Terry Snyder
