Honda Super 90 Project
What you see above is a 1966 Honda Super 90 motorcycle. It is also a big part of my formative years. The Super 90 in 1966 sold for about $400.00 and was patterned after it's larger brothers. The top speed was around 65 mph but could cruise all day at 60 mph. I checked the gas economy on it when I would ride it on the road and found it to be 100 mpg... Not too shabby in today's world. My mother bought it from a guy who rode it only about 40 miles until he dumped it. He was afraid to get back on it and he sold it to mom for a few hundred bucks. She used to ride a Honda 150 of early 60's design but it began to leak more oil than dad's Harley. This replaced it. Since I was not yet old enough to ride on the road with it I rode it around our farm. One day I had dad follow me to the end of our lane and film me with his 8 mm movie camera. I would sit on the very back of the seat and pop the clutch to make the front end pop up. We never told mom about the wheelie video but when the film came back from being processed she saw it and scolded me... (it didn't help much). this old bike has many many fond memories connected with it which is why it is being revived. My 2 boys, Terry Jr. and Andrew, grew up visiting my parents quite often. Both learned to ride motorcycles on this one. My dad always made sure it was working for them. The dents and missing/bent items are a result of this. I know that they will always remember the good times and their relationship with dad and mom when they ride it again. We found it in the old section of the barn where it had been for about 10 years. It was covered with bags of sheep wool that never made it to the market and old go-cart racer that was enjoyed by my 2 boys. It was taken to my brother's place where my nephew Cody and I power washed it to remove the bird and oil mess from it. The Motorcycle in the background is the "Parts" bike. I feel lucky to find it and save the cost of the individual parts. the engine in the parts bike is blown and it is in rough shape. It seems to be a shame to destroy one to build another but that's what is going to be done. Below I will be placing files to help others undergoing the restoration of a similar unit.
